MY STORY
How Pest Control Found Me
My career in pest control began unexpectedly in 2000, when I was 20 years old and working at an auto parts store. One day, I helped a customer who needed a new battery for his work truck. While making small talk, I learned that he owned a local pest control company.
He encouraged me to apply, but I initially brushed off the idea. After several persistent phone calls, I finally agreed to an interview—mostly so he would leave me alone. During that interview, I discovered I could earn nearly twice what I was making, so I decided to give pest control a chance.
What began as a practical career decision quickly became work I genuinely enjoyed. I loved solving pest problems, meeting new customers, and traveling to different homes and businesses instead of being tied to the same workplace every day.
Building a Career in the Industry
Over the years, I gained hands-on experience throughout nearly every part of the pest management industry. I worked in residential and commercial pest control, termite control, and wildlife management before moving into leadership as a Branch Manager.
These roles taught me much more than how to treat pest problems. I learned how to evaluate properties carefully, communicate clearly with customers, lead technicians, manage daily operations, and make sure each job was completed properly.
By the time I began considering overseas work, pest management had already been my career for nearly two decades.
Overseas in Kuwait
In 2019, I accepted an overseas position supporting United States Army and Department of Defense operations in Kuwait. I began as a pest control specialist, working in a desert climate and military environment that presented challenges very different from those I had encountered in the United States.
In 2021, I was promoted to Pest Management Supervisor. This was a leadership position in which I held full responsibility for all pest and animal control operations at Camp Buehring, as well as four additional sites. I oversaw the day-to-day program, responded to pest and animal control concerns, ensured work was completed properly, and managed operations across multiple locations.
That experience expanded my technical knowledge, strengthened my leadership skills, and reinforced the importance of carefully evaluating each situation instead of relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Why Our Family Came Home
Starting my own pest control company had been a goal of mine for many years. In fact, one of the reasons I originally accepted overseas contract work was to build a better future, return home, and eventually start a company of my own. Life kept me in Kuwait longer than I initially expected, but I never forgot that goal.
As my wife completed the immigration process and we learned that we were expecting our second child, our family began thinking seriously about where we wanted to build our future. At the same time, the security situation in Kuwait had become increasingly dangerous. Kuwait came under attack, and we experienced active incoming alerts firsthand. Living and working through that uncertainty made us reconsider where we wanted to raise our children and what would provide the safest and most stable future for our family.
Soon afterward, we were informed that our employer’s contract with the U.S. Army would not be renewed and that most employees would be returning home. I was later offered an opportunity to extend my position, but by then we had already canceled my wife’s and son’s Kuwait visas and put our plans in motion to return to Missouri. After everything we had experienced, we knew coming home was the right decision for our family.
The Beginning of NXGEN
Returning to Missouri gave me the opportunity to finally pursue the goal I had carried with me for years. With more than 25 years of pest management experience behind me, my family and I came home and started NXGEN Pest Services.
I built NXGEN around the kind of service I believe customers deserve: honest recommendations, straightforward pricing, dependable communication, and solutions based on what each property actually needs.
When you call NXGEN, you are not dealing with a distant corporate office or being passed from one department to another. You are working directly with the owner—someone who has spent his entire adult life solving pest problems and who takes personal responsibility for the quality of every service.
For me, pest control has never been only about treating insects or animals. It is about helping people feel comfortable, protected, and confident in their homes and businesses. That is the standard NXGEN Pest Services was built around.
